Book Review: Homerun Proposal (Orleans University, #1) by [Author’s Name]

Every once in a while, a book comes along that immediately grabs your attention with its premise, and "Homerun Proposal" is one of those reads for me. As a sucker for sports romance, the combination of a best friend’s brother, a virgin FMC, and spice coaching had me intrigued. Being introduced to Lane and Hallie’s complicated dynamic at Orleans University sounded like a rollercoaster worth riding.

The story revolves around Lane, a man known for his playboy reputation, and Hallie, the sweet yet quirky best friend of his little brother. Their connection is anything but straightforward, especially as Lane struggles with his feelings while indulging in a lifestyle that frequently puts him at odds with his desires. Through Lane’s point of view, we get a front-row seat to his internal conflict; he has wanted Hallie for years, but his behavior often contradicts his claims. While I appreciated the way author [Author’s Name] navigated the complexities of unrequited love, I found myself frustrated by Lane. He oscillates between being romantic and being a notorious flirt, smashing my ability to root wholeheartedly for him. There were moments I wished Lane would just get his act together, especially when he treats Hallie like an afterthought compared to his night shenanigans.

Hallie, on the other hand, intrigued me. Yes, her stuttering around Lane often grated on my nerves, but her fierce dedication to her podcast and unapologetic embrace of her quirks were refreshing. She’s a character I genuinely wanted to root for, especially when she enters her own awakening concerning her sexuality. Her journey is one of self-acceptance and empowerment, and while her quirks didn’t always work for me, her growth is commendable.

The writing style in "Homerun Proposal" kept me engaged, blending witty banter and palpable sexual tension. I appreciated the pacing, which allowed moments of sweetness and self-discovery to flourish, even if Lane’s less-than-stellar decisions sometimes overshadowed that sweetness. I’d be remiss not to mention some of the tender scenes—particularly when Lane cares for Hallie during her difficult moments. That compassion created a wonderful contrast to his more reckless side.

However, despite those highlights, my overall experience was marred by the perpetual reminders of his playboy reputation. Lane’s actions often left a sour taste, and the tension between his declarations and behavior made it hard for me to see their emotional connection deepen. Yes, there’s electric chemistry, but I was longing for a deeper bond.

Ultimately, "Homerun Proposal" may not have worked for me fully, yet I can see why others might find it appealing. If you love stories about complex relationships and enjoy sports settings—especially ones that juggle emotional conflict with sizzling chemistry—you might just find your next favorite read here. For me, it was a mixed bag of annoyances and sweet moments that didn’t coalesce as I had hoped, but perhaps other readers will resonate differently.
