Every Little Breath by Keri Beevis: A Thrilling Read That Will Leave You Breathless!

OMG! What have I just read?! If every book by Keri Beevis is as exhilarating as Every Little Breath, I’m officially on a mission to collect her entire bibliography. This novel is the quintessential “just one more chapter” type, keeping me glued to the pages from the chilling prologue all the way through to the gasp-inducing epilogue. I’m honestly struggling to put my thoughts into words about how brilliantly crafted this book is!

Set against the eerie backdrop of Norwich, the story kicks off with our protagonist, Casey Fallon, who has just returned home from university. From the outset, we are lured into the horrifying world of a prolific serial killer, all experienced through a chilling first-person narrative that sends shivers down your spine. This opening immediately drew me in, wrapping me in an unsettling atmosphere that lingered throughout the book.

Books Worth Reading:

Casey is a relatable character facing the tough decision of breaking up with her suffocating boyfriend Gareth Noakes when everything takes a dark turn. While trying to grasp her own personal crisis, she stumbles upon something that will haunt her forever—a woman bound and abused in a hidden bunker. The trauma she experiences in those first few chapters sets the tone for a gripping tale of fear, survival, and the lasting effects of violence.

Beevis expertly navigates the themes of trauma and resilience, delivering a narrative that is equally gripping and thought-provoking. I admired Casey’s evolution from a frightened young woman to a resilient survivor who must confront her past as the story unravels. As she attempts to rebuild her life in a new apartment, eerie occurrences begin to threaten her sense of safety. The interplay of suspense and emotions is so well-balanced, and I felt I was experiencing her fears right alongside her.

The pacing of the novel is impeccable. Beevis knows when to build tension and when to provide relief, making it impossible to set the book down. The narrative cleverly entwines past and present, each chapter building toward the shocking twists that I never saw coming. And let me tell you—every twist blindsided me in the best way possible!

One memorable aspect that struck me was the dynamic between Casey and Finn Murphy, the former police constable who has resurfaced in her life. The chemistry and unresolved tension between them added a layer of complexity, making their interactions both awkward and exciting. However, I did find myself wishing for a bit more continuity in Finn’s character—he seemed to shift quite dramatically from the gentle officer Casey once knew to a more self-assured detective.

Despite this small quibble, I assure you that Every Little Breath is an electrifying read rife with heart-stopping moments. It’s tight, tense, and leaves you guessing until the very last page. The writing is immersive, and Beevis has a knack for wrapping her readers in the chilling atmosphere of a psychological thriller.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled psychological thriller. It’s perfect for those who love to be kept on the edge of their seats and who appreciate complex narratives that explore the darkness within us all. Personally, I found my heart racing, and the twists left me reeling. So grab a copy, buckle in, and prepare for a wild ride—you won’t be able to put it down!
