THE BREAKDOWN BY B. A PARIS

By Rimshascorner

BOOK  : THE BREAKDOWN

AUTHOR : B A PARIS

GENRE : MYSTERY / THRILLER

RATING :  ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

VERDICT  :  a page turner , light psychological thriller

This was my first book by BA Paris, that i read. I have heard amazing things about her previous release Behind Close Doors.  So when i picked this up, i kind of knew that i might enjoy this but knowing that i’m not much a thriller person and have only got to be reading them this year , i was a bit uncertain. But as soon as i read the first page, i knew i loved the writing and non the less, story will be fine.

but oh boy, i never knew i  was so fascinated by it until i could not keep myself from reading it. and i have a new found love for psychological thrillers specially if they are dealing with memory.

PLOT

Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside―the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she’d stopped.

Books Worth Reading:

But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn’t have a baby.

The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.

Or the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…

A light hearted binge-able psychological thriller which plays with your memory. this book just gets into your head and make you feel miserable. the ongoing guilt alongside the fear of a murderer on the loose is just madness.

it builds a relationship between a husband and wife as they cope up with the life as it turns after a murder near their house of residence. one of the best things in this book is how well-developed the story as well as the characters are. reading about them felt as if I knew someone from real life.

Books Worth Reading:

there was nothing superficial or artificial about this story. it did not feel like it was made up but rather as a story we mind read about in newspaper and t.v. in other words, it was not dramatized and was presented just as it was. the main couple felt so pure that i loved the way their love was presented.

The writing was very direct but beautifully described. It was atmospheric and had an introspective quality to it which really helped the reader get inside the mind of our character and thus we were feeling all that they were feeling.

the narrative was deeply written, point to point detail of what goes inside one heads. also i absolutely love reading those narrative which have what if quality to them, the ones which displays various possibility not only in the narrators head but also in in the readers head.

There is thrill, there is mystery, there is excitement, madness alongside the burning suspense.

the plot throughout was very gripping but the ending did not feel much impact full. like the ending did not blow my mind but was acceptable. I might have seen it as a possibility, just a tiny bit but not entirely. This might not be the same for every one. I’m not saying that i put the puzzle in order entirely but just normally when we read thriller we tend to  get doubtful on various events and things. That was the case.

Books Worth Reading:

by the end , I felt so mad at the reveal because I did not want that to happen. But then , life is not what you think it is like, and this was a book – so i kept my calm.

There were times when i held this book close to my heart because I did not want it to end because i was enjoying reading it that much.

I minus one star because it did not put me off-guard by the reveal. but over all,

I would highly recommend this book, and might want to read it again because I loved it so much.
